I WAS A MISSING CLASSMATE
The Secret Life of a Covert Alumna Operative

"BUDDYCOOP" BLEW MY COVER. Here I am, about five miles from U. City High, in Olivette, Missouri,
where I have been living secretly since 1969. I thought "they'll never find me here!" Like Valerie
Plame, I have posed all these years as a normal member of the community under the assumed name
of Mrs. Marcia Selner. I met my husband, Norman in my sophomore year at U.City. He was then a
junior. College parted us, but only temporarily. We married after my freshman year at Oklahoma
University. Since then I have been a covert expat alumna of the city state of University City and our
legendary high school
First it was Clayton, then Overland. Finally, west of the border in Olivette. Norman went to law school at
Washington University, while I wore the mantle of a bank teller. His career as a lawyer and a local
politician would soon provide the perfect distraction from my covert identity. I cleverly camouflaged
myself by becoming a mom. People would see me at the P.T.A. or driving around in my 1972 Toyota
Corolla station wagon full of Girl Scout cookies and they would just think "Oh, there goes Marcia." They
never suspected that I was the Marcia Crane from U. City High.
We raised two wonderful daughters, Julie (Palos Verdes, CA) and Jennifer (Chesterfield, MO), who
married two wonderful husbands, Dennis ( Julie) and Alex (Jennifer), and gave us three wonderful
grandchildren, the lovely Ms Jessica the California equestrienne, kindergarten Carly of the curly hair,
and little Zachary pull the drawers out.
Along the way I posed as a pre-school teacher at Lucky Lane and Flynn Park schools for 26 years and
taught several hundred little humans how to interact without hitting each other over the head. They
knew me then and remember me today, when I see them at the supermarket, as "Miss Marcia." It's
better than gold when that happens.
