After graduation, I went to Washington U. and graduated in 1962 with a B.A. in psychology. I had met my husband
while attending college and we married that year. That is when the fun began. We lived in NY while Marvin was a
medical resident in Brooklyn and I worked in NYC. That was a fabulous year for culture – lots of museum going,
plays, concerts and operas. We knew we would probably never live there again, so we did it all. I became pregnant
almost right away and with the Vietnam War draft looming, Marvin fortuitously found his way into the Public Health
Service, CDC branch. We did a short training in Atlanta and then to Chicago for two years where our son Joel was
born. We spent lots of time driving to and from St. Louis to visit family and friends. My sister and brother were still at
home, so we had the best of it all, loving family and time away for ourselves. In 1965 we moved to California, where
my husband finished his medical training at Stanford and where our daughter Julie was born. It’s hard to leave this
area once you see it and experience its magnificent weather and natural beauty. We slowly made our way north of San
Francisco after spending two years in the Palo Alto area, one year in SF and 39 years in Marin County (Mill Valley
first and then Larkspur) which is about 10 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Marvin worked for Permanente
Medical Group in SF for 31 years and retired about 9 years ago. I did the usual suburban stay-at-home Mom things
like school and political volunteering. Even though I have always been very good at figuring out things for myself, I
soon found myself in need of some outside help and that started my long journey of self- examination and healing.
