Here is my attempt to summarize the past fifty years leaving out all the
embarrassing, sometimes racy, sordid and boring details…after graduation I
attended Missouri University in Columbia for a year and a half. As I
remember my Senior Advisor at U. City told me not to go straight to college
as I would probably drop out - and I made an honest and reliable person
out of her. She also said that if I waited until I matured a bit I would
probably succeed in college. When I returned to school at UCLA thirty five
years later, I graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Anthropology and
received a Dean's Scholarship to graduate school where I earned a Master's
degree in Education. Who knew I should have listened to her but then that
was one of the signs of my immaturity - not paying attention to authority
figures. I continued to not listen to authority figures
found myself married when I was too young and immature… and
consequently soon divorced. My second marriage has lasted thirty-six years
and brought two wonderful children into this world. My older daughter
Nicole, 34, has just completed her doctorate in Psychology. She was
married last October and her husband, David, is beginning his PhD program
at the University of Oregon in the fall. Jenny, my younger daughter, 30, also
was married last year in August and she and her husband (coincidently also
named David)
