( Vicky Gerstein said I really did it right the second time) I married again, this time to Ray Greenberg, and in 1995 went to the United Nations women's meetings in China. It was clear to me I wanted to do more international work. I went to Nepal in 1998, 2000, 2001 for one month each year where I worked in shelters with women rescued from sex trafficking and taught at the social work school. I loved combining my art and social work. Over the years I have been invited to draw or meet with with troubled women in groups in Nepal, Ukraine, Scotland and in May in a village in Mexico. Both the Cambridge cultural council and the Brookline Commission for the arts have given me grants. You can see my work at myrnabalk.com and http://www.iabolish.com/profiles/balk.html |
Myrna Balk End of Biography. |
Now my boys are married, Josh lives in Oakland CA with his wife Emily and their two girls, Isabella and Madibba. Ben is working and living in Austin Texas with his wife Zaira and son Max. Both much too far away. Ray, is mostly retired from a psychiatric practice and I am busy with various things. I was very active in the great gubernatorial election that we had, I was invited to Scotland May 2006 to talk and show my art work on the Demand factor. This references the fact that if we did not have a demand to buy bodies, we would not have sex trafficking, abuse, and prostituted women and young children. I look forward to seeing everyone and my next adventure. Myrna |
