Upon graduation from high school in 1957, I enrolled in pharmacy studies at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. In those days, a degree in Pharmacy was only four years compared to six years now. I did my internship during the summers working at a professional pharmacy at the Delmar Loop. Upon graduation, I went to work for Walgreen's at various drugstores around town. I had decided to go to California that same year to take their state pharmacy exam. While I was there, my father called me and told me I had been drafted. What devastating news I thought at the time! I was sent to Fort Leonard Wood to do my 8 weeks of basic training. This was difficult for me but I was able to get through it. I was then sent to a small base in Albuquerque N.M. known as Sandia Base to work in the hospital pharmacy. After |
