I retired in 2002 and Alan retired in 2003. I stay busy with volunteer work,
am longtime president of our neighborhoood association, serve as a
Guardian Ad Litem for foster children, and am a community activist for
affordable housing and other municipal issues. Alan has stayed active
professionally, continuing to review journal articles, write book chapters,
teach, and serve as a consultant on research projects. We travel some,
exercise some and Alan has made great strides in learning Spanish!!
Susan is married to Joel Massel and lives in Chicago, working as a
consultant in the cable industry. Joel runs a company he started which
provides management services to several non-profit organizations. Neal
and Lisa have a son, Sam (5/16/02) - Neal is Secy/Treas of SEIU 1099P
health care workers union and Lisa is research director of a sister union.
So, life has been good to Alan and me - we are both grateful for the
wonderful public education we received. I am still amazed at the level of
mathematics, English literature, American history and science education
I received. Who ever heard of a sixth grade camping program as a part of
the regular education program to teach us non-urban life skills? We are
very thankful for all of our good fortune with family and friends.
