Prior to graduating from U.City, I was told that 75% of the graduates
with my grades do not complete college. After hearing that news
and upon hearing about Kemper Military School in Boonville, I
decided to enroll at Kemper. Of course, many people asked me if it
was a reform school, did I get in trouble with the law, and so on.
I thought the military training at Kemper was great but
scholastically, Kemper left something to be desired. My father was
in the barite (oil well drilling mud -barium sulfate) business so I
enrolled in the Colorado School of Mines in Golden. My grades at
Kemper were all A's and B's so I no difficulty in getting into School
of Mines. However, the easy part was receiving approval from
Mines to go there. Once I started there, I realized that engineering
was not my cup of tea so, in my sophomore year I quit on the last
day I could drop all of my courses without getting the poor grades I
earned. I didn't tell my parents I was quitting.
