David Schaeffer died in the mid 80's, I think, also of a heart
attack (like Sonny Benson), really a surprise. David and I
played slow pitch softball in St. Louis all the time (too much
for adults). He married a girl from Ohio whom he met at
Stephens College while attending Mo. U. and had a daughter. I
left St. Louis area in '74 to move to San Francisco area so my
dates are approximate. (submitted by Alan Cupples)
I had my first encounter with David Schaffer in kindergarten. The
first day of school Mrs. Long had us line up. I was one of the
shortest ones so I had to sit in front on the floor. David( being
taller) got to sit on a chair behind me . I had my hand on the floor
behind me. David put his chair on my hand and sat down on it. I
can't say for sure if he did it on purpose or not but of course I
started crying and never wanted to go back to school again. It
was a very traumatic 1st day of Kindergarten . We later made up
and were friends ever since. I was very shocked when upon
hearing of David's death. I liked him a lot and finally forgave him
for practically breaking my hand. (Submitted by Sondra Bierman
