After earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from Washington
University I received a Fellowship to the Brooklyn Museum School & moved to New
York City, where I’ve remained. [While in art school I spent a summer assisting the
female artist who did the hammered copper sculpture above the entrance to the
Pro-Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. If memory serves, I was responsible for
the right arm of the central figure!] After the Brooklyn Museum School I studied for
three years at The Art Students League of New York, assisting in running a painting
class. I illustrated a cookbook. In addition, Georg Jensen & Rosenthal Studiohaas
sold my hand-made Christmas card designs. I also did label design for a small
distillery in the Scottish Highlands. (The exquisite Highlands!) Amongst other
places, time was spent in France – mostly in the South. A favorite place for several
reasons. I have done set designs for six Off-Off Broadway productions and stage
managed one production, all of which was exciting & challenging. I became the
Assistant to the President of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and held that position
for several years. Being surrounded by such an abundance of art was a sheer joy
and exposed me more intensely to periods of painting and furniture I hadn’t
previously considered in such depth.
