Judy Kahan, my cousin, died of breast cancer at age 60. She had left
St. Louis after graduating from Mizzou and settled in Kansas City,
where she met and married a man who was a mediator for the National
Labor Relations Board. They eventually moved to Milwaukee, where she
spent many years as a paralegal for the Public Defenders office. But
Judy's legacy is her two remarkable children, the most brilliant and
accomplished of any children of any family and friends I know. Her
daughter, Mona, became the special
assistant to Clinton's National Security Advisor, Sandy Berger, at age 30.
She traveled all over the world with him, doing sensitive negotiations for
him in Bosnia, for instance. When Mona left the public sector, she was
featured on the front page of the New York Times, as an example of the
best and the brightest who were leaving government. Mona, now age 38,
is currently the V.P. and Managing Director of Stonebridge International,
LLC, a consulting firm. Her brother, David, became chief legal counsel to
Sen. Edward Kennedy at about the age of 30. One could often see him on
television sitting behind Kennedy at committee meetings or hearings.
David, now age 36, is a V.P for Government Affairs and legal counsel for
Viacom. Judy and her husband, Cecil Sutphen, were obviously
remarkable parents, duly proud of their daughter and son. (submitted by
